Decrypt without installing Kavanah
Keep the independent recovery page with your recovery materials.
Open Backup → A readable copy → Save independent recovery page. Save Kavanah-offline-recovery.html before you need it. The website also provides this download.
Open the saved recovery page in a compatible browser. Choose the bundle and matching key file, enter the password and use the page’s local decryption controls. The files and password are processed on that device.
Save the resulting readable export to a location you trust. Decrypted HTML, JSON and PDF files are not encrypted. Anyone who receives them may be able to read the contents.
You can also choose Decrypt to a readable file inside the app without replacing its current journal. This is useful for viewing a provider package or checking a backup.
If the browser blocks local file features, try an up-to-date desktop browser. Download the official recovery page while connected, then disconnect for the decryption step. Never paste your key file or password into support messages.
