Backups and moving devices

Save an encrypted backup to Drive or another location

Keep the bundle, matching key file and password.

1. Open Backup and create an encrypted backup. Enter and confirm a password of at least 12 characters. Read and acknowledge the recovery warning before preparing the backup.

2. Select Save encrypted bundle and choose a folder in Android’s file picker. You can use local storage or an installed document provider such as Google Drive. The provider handles its own account and network connection.

3. Select Save key file separately. Save the matching .kjkey file somewhere safe, separate from the .kjbackup bundle, and preserve your password. Every newly prepared backup has its own key file; compare their reference identifiers.

4. Check that both files actually exist at the selected locations. If you canceled either picker, save that file again. Keep more than one safe copy and test recovery before replacing a phone or clearing app data.

Even we cannot decrypt your bundle without BOTH the matching key file and password. We do not keep a recovery copy of either. A key file alone is not enough, and there is no password reset.

A backup captures the journal at the time it was prepared. Later edits are not automatically added. Create a fresh backup after important changes.
